I live in Empire, Michigan, just a few blocks from Lake Michigan. I have lived in Leelanau County for ten years, and was drawn here because of my love for the water and landscape. I photograph most of my weddings in northern Michigan, and love connecting with couples who feel are working to highlight a sense of place in their wedding plans.

I began photographing weddings in 2009, and went full time as a photographer in 2010. I was still in college at the time, and upon graduating with a BA in Creative Writing, I continued to work as a wedding photographer as part of a studio collective. In 2015, I opened my current studio- Mae Stier Weddings.

Sometimes! Depending upon your wedding’s timeline, venue, and guest list, I may recommend bringing a second photographer to document your celebration. During our initial call, I will recommend what makes the most sense for your celebration. When I photograph weddings solo, I always bring along an assistant to help navigate logistics, load film, and capture any aerial footage.

I do shoot film, and it is included in my workflow. Most weddings will receive between 50-100 film images, interspersed with their digital files in the final gallery. I love the intention shooting film requires, and find it helps add a grounding presence to my process and the overall gallery.
I also include drone coverage in my wedding coverage! I outsource operations to my assistant, who is a certified drone pilot, and direct the specific imagery to make sure it fits seamlessly into your gallery.
